Popping up on Parsons Green
Last week Initially London emerged from the depths of our Chelsea basement studio on to the wonderful Parsons Green and found a home for our monogrammed bags in Papouelli’s shop on New Kings Road. This is perfect city living: green space bordering a cute high street. You will love strolling through this charming, family-orientated neighbourhood, browsing through the independent businesses selling all sorts of delights from coffee to cosmetics.
We went exploring and checked out some of Parsons Green’s hidden treasures for ourselves…
Papouelli
For beautiful, classic shoes with a contemporary edge look no further! Tucked in among the larger shops on the high street, it simply cannot be ignored. Once past the window displays filled with the most adorable little shoes, you will be faced with the preppiest pumps and the most beautiful brogues, so classy you’ll wish you could fit in some of these itty-bitty shoes yourself… but you can! Though predominantly a kids shoe store, selling shoes starting at a teeny size 16 for babies, Papouelli’s shoes range goes up to a size 45 so if you were eyeing up a pair of the colourful plimsoles, you can buy a pair for yourself and you’ll be all set for summer.
Papouelli provided a home for Initially London this week so we spent several days eyeing up their fabulous selection.
Bayley and Sage
Strolling along the high-street, you’ll be immediately drawn to the selection of fresh flowers, fruit and vegetables arrayed outside this glamorous greengrocer. Bayley and Sage pride itself on selling delicious, fresh and seasonal food. Having stopped in to pick up some lunch on-the-go, we can confirm this whole-heartedly. In search of a sandwich, we were quickly distracted by aisle after aisle of fresh cheeses, meats, artisan breads and freshly made pastries to suit any occasion from family brunch to a cheat’s dinner party. Including the wine.
ST CLEMENTS
After a walk or run on Parsons Green, revive yourself in this darling local café with the most delicious cup of coffee ever. Don’t miss the all-day brunch if you’re like us and totally breakfast minded.
Blush + Blow
For all your beauty, blow dry and skincare needs you will have to stop in Blush + Blow. You will enjoy a great valued blow dry in a fun, friendly salon environment before heading out for the evening with your polished locks and glowing skin!
Cuckoo Hibou
Cuckoo Hibou is a family-run business with a great philosophy; it’s all about bringing kids and families together to relax and have fun. The shop itself is multifaceted; it has a lovely café catering for adults and kids and a lower ground floor play space where music, craft and movement workshops for children in English and French. The play space is for hire for children’s birthday parties and makes the perfect venue. On top of all, Cuckoo Hibou also houses a boutique store selling adorable birthday gifts, fun games for kids as well as decorative items and cute accessories for kids and adults alike sourced from French artisanal brands; cute and unique products which will set you and your kids apart!
Of course, there are many more interesting little shops, but we did have to work so our excursion ended before we had seen them all. Parsons Green is a great day out. Why not take along one of our Covent Garden Market Baskets and pick up a picnic at one of the shops. You can sit in the sun on the Green and watch the world go by. Just watch out for all the kids and dogs.
